A local choice, without a formula

Funeral directors for Dulwich, with a different approach

Choosing a funeral director can feel daunting, especially when you have never arranged a funeral before. We start by listening. We'll explain what needs to happen, what can wait and which choices are entirely yours.

Our funeral home is at 37 David's Road in Forest Hill, within easy reach of Dulwich. We're not a branch of a large funeral chain and we don't pretend to have a shopfront in Dulwich. We simply offer something we believe is worth making the short journey for: thoughtful care, practical experience and the space to make decisions at your own pace.

We can meet you at our funeral home, where there is also a private space to spend time with someone who has died. We arrange funerals throughout East Dulwich, West Dulwich, Dulwich Village, Herne Hill and the rest of London.

Who we are · Why people choose us

A different kind of funeral director

You can have a funeral that honours tradition, breaks with it or falls somewhere in between.

People come to Poetic Endings when they want to feel listened to rather than sold to. We explain our fees, make recommendations when they're useful and are equally comfortable organising a church service, a simple cremation or a funeral in an extraordinary setting.

One of those settings is Dulwich Picture Gallery. The Gallery names Poetic Endings as its funeral and memorial partner. We can work with its events team to arrange a service surrounded by paintings in Sir John Soane's celebrated galleries, and coordinate everything that happens afterwards.

Founded by Louise Winter, funeral director, writer and former editor of the Good Funeral Guide, we're independent and female-led. We are a small, experienced team, working with people of all faiths and none. We are LGBTQIA-inclusive and members of SAIF and the Association of Green Funeral Directors, and are recommended by the Good Funeral Guide and the Natural Death Centre.

We'll never assume you want a particular kind of funeral. Our job is to make the possibilities clear and then make your decisions work in practice.

Our services

What kind of funeral would you like?

There is no single way to say goodbye. We can arrange a traditional funeral at a local church, a ceremony at Dulwich Picture Gallery, a service at a crematorium or a quieter farewell with fewer formalities.

We'll explain the funeral director's fee and any additional charges from the venue, celebrant, crematorium or burial ground before you make decisions.

What a funeral can look like

A funeral that feels right

The venue is one part of the story. A funeral might be led by a vicar in a local church, by an independent celebrant in an art gallery, or by someone close to the person who has died. We help make the details work together.
