Katie Musgrave of Unruly Flowers creates thoughtful funeral arrangements with flowers, foliage and plants chosen for their colour, texture and scent. Her work is seasonal, natural and often wonderfully wild. It begins with the person being remembered, rather than a set design.

Flowers, in all sorts of forms
Some people want just a few simple flowers. Others imagine something wilder and more organic. The arrangements below are starting points, not designs you have to choose from.
Katie has created arrangements inspired by someone’s allotment, a favourite walk in the Scottish Highlands and plants and flowers connected to a person’s country of origin. A remembered scent, a colour or the time of year can be just as good a place to begin.

Planted arrangements
These arrangements are made with living plants, flowers, herbs and bulbs. After the funeral, they can be taken apart and planted in a garden or pots, where they can continue to grow.

Meet Katie at Unruly Flowers
Unruly Flowers began with Katie Musgrave’s lifelong love of flowers. Her studio is in The Poetic Garden, next door to our funeral home in Forest Hill.
Katie loves flowers with character: unusual shapes, rich colours, interesting textures and familiar scents. She chooses British-grown flowers wherever possible and works with what is growing at the time. That might mean spring bulbs and blossom, abundant summer flowers, or autumn branches and seedheads.
Seasonal flowers, thoughtfully made
Sustainability is central to Katie’s work. She does not use Oasis floral foam or plastic bases. Instead, she works with natural materials and supports that can be reused or composted wherever possible. This is part of how she designs the arrangements, not an afterthought.
If someone loved roses, sweet peas or a particular colour, Katie will explore what is possible. Otherwise, she can suggest flowers that are looking particularly beautiful at the time of the funeral.
