West Norwood Crematorium is situated within the beautiful and historic grounds of West Norwood Cemetery. One of London’s “Magnificent Seven” cemeteries, the site is known for its remarkable collection of historical monuments.
The cemetery opened in 1837, with the crematorium added in 1915. The current crematorium building opened in 1956 and includes the chapel, Hall of Memory and columbarium. It offers a peaceful and dignified setting for religious, spiritual and non-religious funerals.
Poetic Endings regularly arranges funerals at West Norwood Crematorium. We can guide you through every part of the funeral, from choosing the ceremony and music to arranging flowers, transport, and an order of service.

The Chapel
The main chapel at West Norwood Crematorium seats up to 100 people and can be used for cremation, burial and memorial services. Its traditional interior and subtle lighting create a calm and peaceful atmosphere.
Funerals at West Norwood Crematorium are open to people of all faiths and beliefs. Religious customs can usually be accommodated when requested in advance, and the service can be led by a celebrant, minister or another person chosen by the family.
A standard chapel service lasts 30 minutes within a 45-minute booking, allowing time for people to enter and leave. Additional time can be arranged if this doesn’t feel long enough. You may also hold the main ceremony somewhere else, such as a church or another funeral venue, followed by a shorter committal at the crematorium.
Music is provided through the Obitus system. The chapel has live-streaming and recording facilities for people who cannot attend in person, and recordings can be ordered as keepsakes.
At the end of the service, the curtains can close around the coffin. Alternatively, the coffin can remain in place until everyone has left the chapel. We will discuss these choices with you beforehand so that nothing happens unexpectedly.
After the funeral, the floral tributes are displayed outside the chapel. They will normally remain there for a few days unless you have arranged to take them away or donate them elsewhere.
