Chloe Green

Chloe is a writer and former comedian who creates each ceremony from scratch. She particularly enjoys weaving in the small observations, funny stories and in-jokes that bring someone's character to life.

Chloe's approach

Remembering someone as they were

A favourite saying, a running joke, a story that everyone tells slightly differently. These can be the details that make a tribute feel immediately familiar.

Chloe writes each ceremony around the person who has died. The memories you share give her a starting point, whether they describe a lifelong passion, an important relationship or a small moment that has stayed with you.

There can be tenderness in a funny story, and humour in a difficult day. A ceremony can hold both without losing sight of why everyone has come together.

Working with Chloe

What Chloe brings to a funeral

Writing and comedy both depend on noticing people closely and finding the words that make a story come alive.

Original writing

Chloe creates the ceremony from scratch, drawing on the life and memories you want to share. The words belong to this person and this occasion.

A feel for humour

If laughter was part of someone's life, it can be part of remembering them too. Chloe has a particular interest in the funny stories and shared jokes that people hold on to.

An eye for detail

The way someone answered the phone, their familiar expressions, their unexpected enthusiasms. Small observations can tell us a great deal about a person.

Planning the ceremony

Words, music and the people taking part

You might already have a poem in mind, a song you want everyone to hear or someone who would like to share a memory. Bring these ideas to your conversation with Chloe so you can discuss how they might fit together.

You don't need to arrive with a finished plan. It can help simply to talk about the person who has died and the kind of gathering you imagine.

If Poetic Endings is arranging the funeral, we'll coordinate the practical details with Chloe, including the venue and timings. We are there on the day, while Chloe leads the ceremony.

Have a conversation first

We always suggest speaking to a celebrant before deciding who you'd like to lead a funeral. You can tell Chloe a little about the person who has died, ask questions and get a sense of whether her approach feels right for you.

Chloe is an independent celebrant. Her fee is separate from Poetic Endings' funeral directing fees and any crematorium, burial ground or venue costs.

A few practical questions

Working with Chloe

Can a funeral include humour?

Yes. A funny story or familiar joke can be a way of remembering someone honestly and affectionately. Talk to Chloe about the person's sense of humour and the tone you have in mind. There is no expectation that a funeral has to be cheerful.

Can we include our own words, readings and music?

Tell Chloe about anything you would like to include, and who might want to take part, so you can discuss how to bring those contributions together. Sharing a memory beforehand is also a way to contribute if you would prefer not to speak on the day.

Can we contact Chloe about a separate celebration of life?

Yes. Chloe also leads celebrations of life. Contact her to talk about the gathering you have in mind, the date and the venue. If you'd like help with the arrangements, you can also speak to Poetic Endings.

Do we have to use Poetic Endings to book Chloe?

No. Chloe is an independent celebrant and you can contact her directly. If Poetic Endings is arranging the funeral, we'll work with her to coordinate the ceremony and practical arrangements.

How much does Chloe charge?

Chloe's funeral celebrant fee starts at £400. She can confirm the final fee and what it includes before you book. This is separate from the funeral director's fees and other funeral costs.

Choosing a celebrant
