celebrating the life of
sir david varney
11th May 1946 – 2nd October 2024
Sir David passed away peacefully at Kings College Hospital on Wednesday 2nd October 2024 with the love and support of his wife and family.
With his humble roots in South East London and a career that saw him, and the family, spanning the globe, his life reflected his passion for making a difference and having an impact embedded in values of compassion, empowerment, social justice and inclusion.
From the student union of Surrey University to chairing Business in the Community and navigating the complexities of leadership in Government, the NHS and multiple global companies, many of us have been touched by his intellect, wicked sense of humour and his passion for improving the world - often with a seriously ‘left field’ approach well ahead of its time!
We hope you will join us in celebrating his life as we gather to remember him, smile and reflect on the legacy he has left and the steps he took alongside us in life.
Sir David’s funeral will take place at The Conservatory, Horniman Museum & Gardens on Monday 4th November 2024 at 12:30 PM.
After the funeral, we’ll gather at the Pavilion at the Horniman to share stories and memories over food and drink.
There will be a separate private committal ceremony.
Please RSVP for the funeral using the form below to help us plan catering and seats.
Although flowers are a lovely gesture, we’d appreciate donations in Sir David’s memory to the Rare Dementia Support, a charity which Pat and David found particularly helpful in recent years.
