Poetic Endings · Independent funeral directors across London

Bespoke funeral directors in London

A funeral can be traditional, unusual, simple, elaborate or somewhere in between. What matters is that the arrangements are made with thought.

We take the time to understand the person who has died and what you want from the funeral. We'll explain what's possible, be clear about the costs and take care of the arrangements.

The Poetic approach

What do we mean by a bespoke funeral?

For us, bespoke means starting with a conversation rather than a predetermined package. You might want a church service followed by burial, a humanist funeral in a beautiful building, or a small gathering with just a few people.

It doesn't have to be elaborate or expensive. Some of the most personal funerals are very simple. We'll listen to what you have in mind, offer suggestions where they're useful and help you make informed choices.

You don't need to know what kind of funeral you want before getting in touch.

Your choices

The details that shape a funeral

There's a great deal of choice in arranging a funeral. We can help you understand it without overwhelming you with options that aren't relevant.

01

Where it takes place

In a church, crematorium chapel, natural burial ground, garden or another venue. We can also arrange a ceremony in one place and the cremation or burial somewhere else.

02

Who leads the ceremony

A religious leader, an independent celebrant, someone close to the person who has died, or a combination. We'll help you find someone appropriate if you'd like us to.

The coffin, flowers and transport

There are beautiful traditional choices, as well as natural materials, colour and more unusual possibilities. We'll explain what each option involves and what it costs.

How the day unfolds

Music, readings, contributions from friends, time for quiet reflection, and somewhere to gather afterwards. The ceremony can be as structured or as informal as you want it to be.

What this can look like

Every funeral is different. These two were planned with particular people in mind, and their stories have been shared with permission.

Michelle's funeral

Michelle had made decisions about her funeral before she died. On a snowy February morning, there was music, a humanist ceremony, handwritten messages and a horse-drawn journey to the graveside at Clandon Wood.

Traditional, modern, simple or unusual

You don't have to do things differently

We arrange traditional funerals as well as more unusual ones. A church service, a familiar hymn and a traditional hearse can be just as personal as a ceremony in a different setting.

Our approach is about making sure you understand your choices, not encouraging you to make the funeral unconventional.

Clear costs

How much does a bespoke funeral cost?

There isn't a single total because the funeral will depend on the choices you make. We'll give you an itemised estimate and explain which costs are fixed and which are optional.

Questions we often hear

Bespoke funerals — FAQs

It's fine to have questions before you know what you want. You can always call us and talk things through.

Does a bespoke funeral have to be unusual?

No. A traditional religious service, a crematorium funeral or a simple ceremony can all be arranged with the same attention to what matters to you.

Is a bespoke funeral more expensive?

Not necessarily. The cost depends on the services and options you choose. Our Tailored Funeral professional fee is £2,600, with the coffin, venue and cremation or burial charges separate. We'll give you an itemised estimate and explain your options.

Can a funeral take place somewhere other than a crematorium?

Yes. There are alternative funeral venues across London, including gardens, historic buildings and other spaces. The cremation or burial can take place separately.

Can we have a religious or non-religious funeral?

Yes. We can help arrange a funeral with a minister, a celebrant or someone you know leading the ceremony, depending on the setting and your preferences.

Can you help if we haven't made any decisions?

Of course. Tell us whatever you know so far. We'll explain the immediate practical steps and work through the choices with you.

Do you arrange bespoke funerals across London?

Yes. Our funeral home is in Forest Hill, South East London, and we arrange funerals across London and beyond.
