Reimagining Funerals, by Rosalie Kuyvenhoven

  • Poetic Endings 37 David's Road, Forest Hill Forest Hill, London United Kingdom (map)

People are increasingly opting for non-religious funeral services, designed around the life of the person who has died. Celebrants have become masters at crafting personalised welcome addresses, writing eulogies that bring a person to life and coming up with meaningful committal phrases.

But there’s more.

In this interactive online session, experienced funeral celebrant Rosalie Kuyvenhoven will present ways in which people have found creative ways to express their grief and pay tribute to their person beyond words.

You’ll learn about symbolic rituals, creative use of ceremony space and alternative ways of presenting a person’s life story.

Meet Simon, whose funeral was inspired by science fiction movies. Get to know Dick, a musician, who was remembered by a special backstage pass. Join Sonya’s friends in a ritual of movement and song. Stand by Evan’s parents who honoured their baby boy’s life in a local wood.

Rosalie will walk you through examples of creative funerals she has led and will share good practice tips on how they work. You’ll be invited to get creative yourself too by working on a selection of case studies.

This workshop is aimed at anyone who is involved in arranging a funeral. You may wish to join from a personal interest or perhaps you are working in the funeral profession and keen to learn more about crafting creative funerals.

This event will take place on Zoom. Login information will be sent out prior to the event.
Tickets cost £10. Everyone welcome. Please sign up via Eventbrite.
